I enjoy skiing at different places.  Each area has some unique advantages.  Bear Notch has more snow than as found in other locations.  They need a few more exciting trails.  I had a lot of fun, here.

Along the river in Barlett

Bear Notch offers skiing along the river on its’ own trails.  The trails along the exposed riverbed are cold due to the wind!  A good portion of the trails along the river also require you to ski on the trail made along the railroad tracks.  The railroad track right of way is used to reach the hotels in the southeastern portion of Bear Notch.  You can ski to the hotels and visit Attitash, if you would like.  The quality and depth of the snow as found here was considerably better than the snow from Bretton Woods only a little further to the north.  There is 3 feet of snow above those rails.  Snowmobiles also use a portion of the railroad right of way.

The touring center also has some loops on the hillside.  You can access these loops from the touring center or by During the other weekend I also went skiing at Bear Notch Touring center.  This facility is operated by two brothers.  It is situated in the nice town of Barlett, NH.  The touring center is located near the river.  The river flows from the Presidential mountain range.  The former Mountain Division of the Maine Central is also here; this is the railroad tracks.  It runs in the valley north towards Bret856380_10151532372939923_250585913_oton Woods.  The Conway Scenic Railway now operates tourist trains during the summer over the line.

I must point out that this operation is a bit rustic.  This area is not so large as some of the facilities. However, I do not need to pay for my trail pass by credit card.  I want good snow and some trails.  There are possibilities, here.  You could stay in town and also ski Attitash.  Jackson and Bretton Woods are not far, either.

You can connect to the trails along the hillside – these are on the south side of town – via walking through some of the streets of Barlett from the river trails.   You can also start from the touring center and head to these trails, immediately.  #19 was a fun descent.  I also found how to connect to Bear Notch road from the touring center.  You can ski to Bear Notch Road and take it down.  Two fellows on Alpine Terrain skis connected with me.  We went together.  They were surprised to see skinny skis. Technically, this is out of bound skiing.  However, it was on groomed road.
