There is lots of chatter about the number of hours a single operator all band entrant endures while in the chair. Of course, we have the exception to the rule 48 hour marathon type, and I have probably missed this opportunity given my youthful age.
Additionally, the serious type probably sits in the chair around 30 plus hours feigning zombie like hallucinations like the marathoner. He or she really prefers a little more sleep for sanity sake.
On the other hand, the normal operator may sit in the chair between 1 to 24 hours for an entire weekend without much hesitation, unless something provokes pushing the OFF button?
I'd like to inject third order intermodulation distortion and advocate 'not' changing the duration of any major franchise event. If, given the strength of the recent G1 storm during the initial start of WPX SSB and, if the event was 24 hours then I would have OFF'd for the weekend.
There are two other majors I enjoy competing against self that is the Russian DX and IARU HF World Championship. Both events allow a minimum of 1 point for local contacts in a 24 hour period. However, at least WPX SSB had enough time to recover resulting in a lot of fun for everyone with its 48 hour format.
Overall, like N0AX mentioned, let's not create a new wheel instead leave the 24 hour option to RadioSport clubs to organize or other innovative, forward thinking individuals.
Contest on!

By publishing the number of hours worked with the score, using whatever time-on calculation the log-checkers feel is appropriate for that contest, it would be straightforward for an interested third-party to calculate score/hr statistics. Public, validated logs could also be parsed for all sorts of time-related stats:
- best first 24 hour score
- best second 24 hour score
- best N hour score
- fastest to N points and so on.
It would be the equivalent of baseball's sabermetrics - what is the analog of "slugging percentage"?
If the data was there and someone cared about the calculation, it would probably be performed. We might find an interesting way to compete that doesn't require a new formal category. Or we might decide that what we already have is good enough and that more categories don't really change things. Nevertheless, the impact on the contest sponsors, who have very limited resources, would be minimal.73, Ward N0AX
