It is my pleasure to announce that Katherine “Kitty” Hevener, W8TDA has been appointed Assistant Section Manager (ASM) for Southwest Ohio. Kitty replaces former ASM Fred Stone, W8LLY, who resigned from the appointment several months ago. In this role, Kitty will be the regional contact in the Southwest region of the Ohio Section. For a detailed map of Kitty’s area of coverage, please see the Ohio Section website. Kitty is available to speak at club functions and Hamfests in the region.
Kitty was first licensed in WV in 1974 as WB8TDA. She credits High School peer pressure for bringing her into our ranks. She lives in Cincinnati, and is a member of the Queen City Emergency Net (QCEN) and life member of ARRL and Courage Handihams. While working at ARRL, (1984-86) Kitty authored QST’s “Washington Mailbox” column, contributed to the FCC Rule Book, and updated the ARRL Program for the Disabled resource compendium. She enjoys working public service events, operating CW, team teaching tech licensing classes, public speaking, reading, and participating in a variety of water activities.
Kitty is recognized by Toastmasters International as a distinguished toastmaster. She is also a certified World Class Speaking Coach and an advocate for people with disabilities. Her advocacy work includes serving on Ohio’s Trauma committee and the Governors council on People with Disabilities.
In recognition of her accomplishments and contributions, Kitty was selected as a torch bearer for the 2002 winter olympics.
She looks forward to working with hams and ham clubs in southwest Ohio.
