I'd like to continue my conversation about promoting Amateur Radio as an art and science as part of my Project Future of Ham Radio.
Business value is a concept that is unique to each organization including its tangible and intangible elements. Furthermore, according to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, Fifth Edition, (PMBOK Guide) published by the Project Management Institute (2013); the effective use of project, program, and portfolio management disciplines assist an organization in the deployment of reliable, established processes.
The outcome of project, program, and portfolio management allows an enterprise to meet its objectives and obtain greater business value from its investments (PMBOK Guide, 2013).
Projects, Programs, and Portfolio
Yesterday, I blogged about project and program, and I researched our the League's website to ascertain types of programs and projects. I found listed under membership benefits; ARRL Volunteer Examiner Coordinator Program; Youth Programs; and Legislative Advocacy Programs.
The Numbers
Organizational structuring suggests management by geography including further decomposing of the structure into divisions managed by a total of (n = 15) elected Directors. Subsequently, each Director has a Vice-Director (n = 15), for a total of (n = 30) elected Directors and Vice-Directors disbursed across the country.
Consequently, a division is further decomposed into sections, and each section is managed by a Section Manager with Field Organizations helping to conduct Section business according to the ARRL website.
Corporation
I encourage reading ARRL Articles of Association wherein it is stated, "The name of the corporation shall be The American Radio Relay League."
I also encourage reading the By-Laws to familiarize one self with corporate structural requirements or governance.
According to the website, the Secretary of the State of Connecticut approved the Articles of Association, on January 26, 1915 with amendments as recent as 12 January 2012.
My Membership Question
Is membership a product? Is membership a service? Or is membership a good? Membership is classified as a benefit.
A benefit is defined as an advantage or profit gained from something.
Project Future of Ham Radio
I'm advancing my Project Future of Ham Radio because of two recent samples suggesting significant shifting demographics (eg. Slide 15 and OQRS surveys) and, a high interest topic, "Is Amateur Radio advancing as an artform?"
Lastly, I certainly understand the caveat in my last screenshot, "There would be no Amateur Radio as we know it today were it not for the ARRL."
However, I'm quite concerned about the next 100 years, what the next century of Amateur Radio is going to look like, and whether or not our hobby is sustainable at least on this side of the Atlantic.
