Our first meeting of the 2013 was very exciting. We began the process of starting committees to do the club’s business. We had an excellent presentation on HSMM-Mesh (using off the shelf routers to create a “Ham only” high speed data network). We made plans for the MARC “Birthday party that replaces the regular March meeting. The gathering will be 3/9/13 at Milford Masonic Temple, 32 Water St., Milford OH starting at 6:30pm. The event will be catered and is $9.00 per adult and $3.00 per child under 12.

The February meeting we are doing “Show and Tell” for the presentation. We are requesting everyone attending February monthly meeting to bring an item to “show and tell” the club. Everyone has something interesting in their shack that the other members might have never seen. Each attendee will get a couple minutes to tell about their item. It should be a lot of fun.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that if you want to give input on club operations that you sign up to be on one of the committees. This is the forum that we will be gathering input from the club. I want to make sure that it is clear that the committee’s task is to provide the “Plan” for their particular area, NOT to be the only ones to provide the “muscle” for an event. We ALL will still need to help to make a particular event work. These committees will meet outside of the regular meetings to prepare their plans and present them for vote at the regular meetings. Under normal conditions, we won’t be discussing details of a particular event at the monthly meetings. Contact Andrew or myself between meetings if you want to help a committee develop their plans.
We are already beginning the planning for the Hamfest and Field Day, so those committees will be busy preparing their pans in the next few months. We need to get ideas to enhance our revenue at the Hamfest. We have ideas that will require funds, like a club station, so we need to maximize the revenue from our main event, the Hamfest.
Brendan Beresford (KD8RAP) was approved, at the meeting, to do the clubs annual accounting (working with our treasurer Jim (WB8RRR)) and tax filing. Brendan is an accountant and will be a great addition to our team.
The February meeting will occur as scheduled on 2/14/13, Valentine’s Day at 7:30pm.
If you want to have a motion for member’s vote on the agenda at our next meeting or wish to address the meeting, please send me an email with the content of your motion or idea and I will schedule it on the agenda. The agenda will be published and updated on www.w8mrc.com so you will always know what we are doing at the next meeting. I will update the agenda as changes are made throughout the month. We are going to be using www.w8mrc.com extensively now to communicate the clubs business and the calendar on the web site is up to date.
